The fifth grade's end of year tradition continues with our annual picnic at Cherry Hill Park. The picnic will be on Friday, June 7th. We will arrive at the park around 9:00 am and leave between 12:30 and 1:00 pm. We will have some hungry mouths to feed during that time! Each student has signed up to bring in a supply (bottled water, cooler with ice, hot dogs, fruit, veggies, etc.). If your family is unable to send in the item your student has signed up to bring, please let me know as soon as possible so that we can make other arrangements to ensure we have all the supplies needed for a successful picnic. Since we do not have a place to store the supplies (especially ones that require refrigeration), we ask that supplies be sent to school the day of the picnic only.
Students are welcome to bring extra items to share (many asked if they can bring more cookies to the picnic), but please be sure the item signed up for is the top priority. If students have any special dietary needs, please feel free to send in food specific for him/her to eat at the picnic. For example, a vegetarian might not want to eat the hot dogs being served. :)
We are looking for parents to help us get supplies from MEH to the park, set up and serve the food, and help us get the supplies back to MEH. If you think you are able to join us, sign up on the SIgnUpGenius by clicking here.
Here is the link to the parent volunteer sign-up in case you need to copy and paste it into a browser for some reason:
Additional copies of the permission slip can be found here (in the field trips section of my website).
If for some reason the weather does not cooperate, we will still have an in-school picnic.
Feel free to send along any questions. Let's hope for a sunny morning! |

The much anticipated field trip to Colonial Williamsburg is just around the corner. Permission slips were sent home with students today. If you need an additional copy of the field trip permission slip, click here. You can also find other information regarding the field trip in this location. While some of the questions students had were answered today, we will be having a grade-wide meeting a couple of days before the field trip to revisit those questions and answer any news ones that pop up. I have posted an information sheet that may help answer questions you or your student may have in the same location as the permission slip. If you are interested in being a chaperone for the field trip, please send me an email. Please know that I am only able to take a limited number of chaperones. Chaperones that join us will have to pay a $10 fee to cover the cost of the entrance ticket and are asked to ride the buses with us.

There are many ways to show our students how they can use their talents and interests in the future. A great way is to have parents volunteer for MEHMS's Career Day on March 7th to share their jobs and experiences. The 5th grade is looking for volunteers to come speak between 10:07 and 11:27am. If you are interested and able to join us, please contact the Career Day Coordinator, Elise Kenney, in our Counseling Department at 703.720.5706 or by emailing her kenneye@fccps.org. Thank you! |

The fifth grade team recently learned that all fifth grade students can easily log in to Powerschool, the online grade book. We previously thought only parents had access to it.
I took the students to the computer lab today to have each student log in to Powerschool from www.fccps.org/meh. Each student learned how to click on the quarterly grade to see all assignments factored into the grade. Students are encouraged to log in to Powerschool on a regular basis and ask whatever questions they may have about their grades.
As a parent, if you have never logged in to Powerschool you may want to make it a point to do so. The parent password gives you access to features your student does not have. For example, parents can set up a feature where Powerschool sends you a weekly email.
If you have any questions or need any help with Powerschool, please send me an email. |

Due to technical difficulties with the district server, I have not able to get some information posted on my website. Also, I apologize for not responding to any emails from parents as I was unable to access my email from school. Hopefully everything will be up and running as usual soon. |
